STEM / STEAM / Makerspaces

Standout Education offers a range of STEM-related hands-on workshops for staff and students. We explore how modern technologies can be integrated into makerspaces and applied in the classroom to support delivery of the ICT General Capability and the Digital Technologies Curriculum.

Teachers Makerspace Workshop

You will learn how to set up an engaging makerspace in your school or classroom, to foster creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and technical skills.
During this hands-on workshop you will learn to invent and program with a range of electronic kits. Working in small groups, you will design amazing creations, build them with recycled materials and craft supplies and bring them to life with programming!
We will also explore how making, tinkering, inventing and coding can be integrated across a range of curriculum areas.

You will gain practical experience with the following technologies.

Wearable Technology

Start the workshop by using basic kits and components that enable you to make simple circuits – light up your day with batteries, LEDs and conductive tape!

littleBits is a platform of easy-to-use electronic building blocks for creating inventions large and small. Explore the world of electronics. Use littleBits modules with almost anything, including craft materials and other toys, to “make something that does something,” like an interactive pet cat, a nightlight, or an electronic bubble maker.

MaKey MaKey

MaKey MaKey is an invention kit for the 21st century. Turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It’s a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between.

Hummingbird Robotics

Hummingbird is designed to enable engineering and robotics activities for ages 8+ that involve the making of robots, kinetic sculptures, and animatronics built out of a combination of kit parts and crafting materials. You can easily program your inventions with Scratch or other visual programming languages.

Arduino is the open-source electronic prototyping platform allowing you to create interactive electronic objects. Work with servo motors, lights, buttons, switches, sound, sensors, breadboards and wires to design, create and program something amazing!
We will look at the electronics and computer science required to make the most out of your Arduino – and show you simple ways you can get your students inventing and programming with Arduino.
